HACU Helping Displaced
Katrina Students and Faculty
HACU’s membership quickly responded to
offer space for more than 3,300 undergraduate students, 400 masters level
students, 76 PhD students, and 45 visiting faculty. These member
institutions are all willing to offer some form of tuition exemption or
resident tuition, as well as scholarships and other types of financial
support. HACU has sent this information to schools affected by the
hurricane in an effort to help place as many students and faculty as possible.
HACU’s website can be accessed to learn
what type of assistance each member institution is able to offer. This
website will also be updated as more member institutions response to the
e-survey. Please click here for

“The aftermath of this
incredibly devastating storm is an enormous challenge for all Americans and for
the world. HACU is seeking to collaborate with other sister associations and
national organizations to offer support and facilitate coordination between its
member colleges and universities and those most affected by Katrina,” HACU
President Antonio Flores said.
“I want to thank all our
member institutions for answering the survey, including the positive response
of some of our international members. Their efforts will enable HACU to
help place many students and faculty so they can continue their academic
careers. This hurricane has affected so many lives and working together
to coordinate the efforts of our member institutions to help the victims will
help make a difference,” added
