Our Campus' Response to Hurricane Katrina

        Educational Programs

• UMBC Talks - September 21.  The Campus Coordinating Committee for Culture and Diversity and the UMBC Chapter of the NAACP hosted its bi-monthly "UMBC Talks: Rapid Response" session in the Mosaic Center. The discussion, facilitated by Patty Perillo, Bev Bickel, Joby Taylor and NAACP leaders, focused upon the racial dimensions of the flooding and relief efforts in Louisiana and Mississippi.

• UMBC Symposium - September 29, 4-6 p.m., University Center Ballroom.   Faculty from various disciplines will educate the campus community about the effects of this tragedy, its impact and what we have and can learn.  (Please refer to flier at the top of this page.)

         Relief-Related Programs

• Blood Drive - September 20.  Goal= 110 units; Total units donated= 146. Donors scheduled= 155; Donors presenting= 179; First time donors= 70. This Red Cross unit reported that this was the most blood they'd collected in quite a while. Thank you, UMBC.
