Terrell L. Strayhorn, Ph.D. Dr. Terrell Strayhorn is Assistant Professor of Higher Education and Special Assistant to the Provost at The University of Tennessee-Knoxville. In addition, he serves as the Associate Director of Publications for the Center for African American Research and Policy headquartered at The University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Strayhorn is author of a recent book on student learning outcomes assessment, Frameworks for Assessing Learning and Development Outcomes (FALDOs), published by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS). He has authored over 36 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and other scholarly works. His research has been accepted for publication in leading scholarly journals including the The Journal of Higher Education, Journal of College Student Development, NASPA Journal, and other widely-read sources. He has presented over 60 papers at international and national conferences and symposia. His research centers on the experiences of historically underrepresented groups, particularly African Americans, throughout the educational pipeline. Another stream of inquiry focuses on factors that influence the learning experiences and learning outcomes of college students. An active member of the Association for the Study of Higher Education, American Educational Research Association, and several other professional associations, Dr. Strayhorn has been awarded the Outstanding Junior Scholar Award sponsored by the Council on Ethnic Participation within the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE); the National Association for Student Affairs Professionals’ Benjamin L. Perry Professional Service Award; and the 2007 ACPA Emerging Scholar Award to recognize his early career achievements. He is a member of 3 journal editorial boards and guest editor of the 2008 NASAP Journal. He has been named one of the most highly-regarded and active new scholars in the field of higher education. Dr. Strayhorn earned his undergraduate degrees (music and religious studies) and master’s degree from The University of Virginia. He earned a doctorate in higher education from Virginia Tech.
