Updated 5:18 AM September 19, 2003 UMBC will be CLOSED on Friday, September 19 in order to ensure the safety of the campus community as Maryland recovers from the effects of Hurricane Isabel. Essential UMBC personnel must report to campus. Residence halls, on-campus apartments and dining halls will remain open. techcenter@UMBC will be open on Friday, and employees of techcenter@UMBC companies should contact their employers for closing decisions. UMBC's home women's soccer game vs. Vermont, scheduled for Friday, September 19 at 4pm, has been postponed due to weather conditions. The game will be made up on Sunday, October 12 at 1pm at UMBC Soccer Stadium. As of Thursday at noon, all other UMBC home contests for Saturday and Sunday this weekend are to be played as scheduled. Those include men's soccer vs. Delaware at 1pm on Saturday, women's soccer vs. Maine at 1pm on Sunday, and field hockey vs. Northeastern at 2pm on Sunday. For the latest information about athletic events, please visit the athletics Web site (www.umbcretrievers.com). Parents or family members with questions or concerns about resident students at UMBC should call the Office of Residential Life at 410-455-2591. To report an emergency or safety hazard, call the UMBC Campus Police at ext. 5-5555 on campus or 410-455-5555 off campus. The University will also share announcements about campus closings with radio and TV stations; however, for the most current information, please call the UMBC hot line numbers: 410-455-8881/8882/8883/8884/8885 with an on-campus number of 5-8881/8882/8883/8884/8885. Everyone is encouraged to pick one of these numbers at random to reduce the likelihood of inundating one number with calls. Information will also be posted on the UMBC Web site (www.umbc.edu) and the UMBC safety Web site (www.umbc.edu/safety).
