Graduate Admissions

UMBC, in collaboration with the University System of Maryland and The Universities at Shady Grove, offers an opportunity for post baccalaureate students to reach their educational goals through various degree programs.  Realizing the multiple demands placed on working professionals, UMBC offers four graduate programs geared towards accommodating this population.

The Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Geographic Information Systems, Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Cybersecurity and the Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Biotechnology allow students to register for courses during the evening and weekends. Following this format, students are able to complete the programs within two years.

What is an MPS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology?

UMBC's Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Industrial/Organizational Psychology is a unique, highly applied program that explores and integrates important topics including organizational behavioral management, human factors, and professional human resources practice.  This program helps students develop a professional portfolio while building strong relationships with faculty practitioners and industry professionals.

What is an MPS in Geographic Information Systems?

UMBC's Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a 30-credit graduate program that will provide an advanced-level of education to professionals working or interested in the region's geospatial technology industry.

What is an MPS in Cybersecurity?

UMBC's Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Cybersecurity is a 30-credit graduate program that equips students with a strong understanding of the technical components of the cybersecurity field and in-depth knowledge of cybersecurity strategy, policy and management. 

What is an MPS in Biotechnology?

UMBC's Master of Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Biotechnology is a 30-credit graduate program designed to prepare science professionals to fill management and leadership roles in biotechnology-related companies or agencies, offering an alternative degree option for individuals not interested in pursuing a M.D. or Ph.D. degree.
