Biotechnology is an increasingly important part of society, as breakthrough products and technologies are continuously developed to solve significant challenges and help improve lives. Biotechnology managers are often leading the charge in solving major health and environment challenges.

Biotechnology is consistently one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the U.S., particularly in Maryland. The State is home to more than 500 core bioscience companies—the second largest cluster (per capita) in the United States. A strategic plan to keep growing Maryland’s bioscience industry (BioMaryland 2020) will bring further growth and new opportunities for trained professionals in agricultural feedstock and chemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals, medical devices and equipment, as well as research, testing and medical laboratories.
