M.P.S. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

The MPS in Biotechnology is designed as an applied, terminal master’s degree that incorporates science, regulatory and management courses. The MPS curriculum includes 10 courses (30 credits) in three areas: Life Sciences, Bioregulatory Affairs and Management.

 

Life Sciences: 5 Courses [15 credits]

BTEC 650: Applied Biochemistry [3]

BTEC 651: Molecular and Cell Biology [3]

BTEC 652: Molecular Biotechnology [3]

BTEC 653: Applied Bioprocess Engineering [3]

BTEC 654: Emerging Topics in Biotechnology [3]

 

These courses are offered in sequence starting in the fall semester of each academic year

BIOTECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE

Beginning in Spring 2014, the Biotechnology Management Certificate consists of 4 courses (12 credits) and will enable students to explain the regulatory affairs process for bringing biotechnology products to market, practice and apply interpersonal skills in team building and project leadership, use financial tools to monitor and manage biotechnology project, and discuss legal and ethical issues in the life sciences upon completion of the certificate program.

This certificate requires the following four courses:

BIOCHEMICAL REGULATORY ENGINEERING CERTIFICATE

The Biochemical Regulatory Engineering Certificate consists of 4 courses (12 credits) and will enable students to understand the key steps for obtaining FDA approval of a biotechnology product, achieve a working knowledge of CGMP compliance, quality control, validation, and design of GMP biotech facilities, prepare key CGMP documents, such as batch records, SOPs, validation protocols, and develop a QC package for key classes of biotech products upon completion of the certificate program.

This certificate requires the following four courses. The courses may be taken in any sequence. However, it is recommended that students take ENCH 660: Regulatory Issues in Biotechnology first.
