Program Overview

With an emphasis on public history, policy history and international historical perspectives, UMBC's Bachelor of Arts in History Program is designed to encourage the development of good writing and research skills in conjunction with innovative and critical thinking. This program offers students an opportunity to develop analytical and communication skills and serves to broaden perspectives on the past.

The program is excellent preparation for careers in education, law, government service, communications and management, public history, research as well as for entry into graduate programs. Students are encouraged to engage in active learning experiences such as internships and in-depth research at the undergraduate level.

Students take their lower division courses prior to transferring and complete their upper division courses at UMBC at The Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, MD. All students should consult with an academic advisor every semester about appropriate course selections.
