Diane Alonso, P.D. serves as the UMBC Psychology department’s Program Director at the Universities at Shady Grove. She started the undergraduate program at the Center in 2004 and the Graduate I/O Psychology program in 2007. Diane is a lifetime Maryland resident and received her undergraduate degree (B.S.) in Computer Science and her graduate degrees (M.S. and Ph.D.) in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). With a background in Cognitive Psychology and Human Factors/Usability, Diane has over 10 years experience working in industry both for IBM’s Federal Systems Division and for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC)’s Health and Human Services Division. While employed at CSC, Diane performed usability work for clients such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the Department of Education, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She also created and led a successful training program for new software implemented for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Systems (MMCS).

 

In addition to her vocation, Diane’s avocation is musical theater. For over 15 years she performed locally in community and professional theaters in the D.C. and surrounding metro areas. In 1992, during a production of an original version of the “Phantom of the Opera” at Toby’s Dinner Theater* in Columbia, Maryland, Diane met her future husband, the very talented composer of the commissioned production, Tom Alonso (http://www.tomalonso.com/). They were married a year later and now have 2 beautiful daughters, Lisa, and Johanna, and a very spoiled bunny, Scallion.

Dr. James Griffith

Griffith, Dr. James

 

James Griffith, Ph.D., The Claremont Colleges Graduate School; M.S., Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.; B.A., University of Maryland.

 

Dr. Griffith is a program director at the National Center for Education Statistics. Previously, he worked as senior project director at Westat, Inc. and a uniformed research psychologist at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. He currently serves in the Army National Guard and is the reserve component research psychology consultant research for the Army Medical Service Corps. Dr. Griffith has previously taught in the psychology programs, including California State University-Long Beach and The Claremont Colleges. He has published on topics such as all-volunteer military, citizenship, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, retention, cohesion and morale, and stress adaptation. He served as one of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Division Presidents and has been honored by being awarded Fellow status in two APA Divisions and the American Education Research Association.

Ted Rosen

Ted Rosen, Ph.D. is new to USG this Fall and serves as the UMBC Psychology Department’s Associate Program Director. He was recently on the faculty of the Management Department, and served as the Director of the Program in Organizational Behavior and Development at The George Washington University School of Business. Dr. Rosen instructed and facilitated graduate level courses in the MBA Programs, Project Management Programs (distance and classroom formats), the Management Information Systems Program, and the Executive Management Information Systems Program.

 

Dr. Rosen’s doctorate degree is in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and he has over 30 years management consulting, contracting and research experience. He also served at US Postal Service Headquarters and the US Office of Personnel Management Headquarters. In recent years, he completed international executive development assignments in Romania, Egypt and Albania and has presented management workshops for visiting international executives in Washington, DC. Dr. Rosen also presents lectures and shares research at professional conferences.

 

Ted is a longtime baseball fan and participant. He has been on the field every season since the original Senators played in Griffith Stadium. He field time now is as an umpire in high school, adult, and little leagues. Ted has two daughters out of college and his wife, Linda, is a consultant in mathematics education issues.
