Why did you choose UMBC at The Universities at Shady Grove?
I chose UMBC at The Universities at Shady Grove because it was an opportunity for me to partake in the UMBC experience right in my “backyard.” UMBC is a prestigious university with great academic standings and rankings from leading organizations such as the Carnegie Foundation. The desire to be associated with a university such as this that is close to home is the main reason I chose UMBC at The Universities at Shady Grove.
What do you like best about UMBC-Shady Grove?
I love the smaller classes and the more individual attention that it brings to students. There is a familiarity between students and professors that makes the learning experience more hassle and stress free. Its location is perfect and gives me the advantage of being part of UMBC here in Montgomery County.
What internships and/or extracurricular activities have you been involved with at UMBC-Shady Grove?
I’ve been involved with the UMBC Political Science Association here at the Shady Grove campus, representing students and voicing their opinions in the marketplace of ideas in hopes of making the Political Science program here at Shady Grove even better. Additionally, I teach English part-time at Montgomery Blair High School for students who need the extra help. I believe that society has given me so much despite my adversities and the least I can do is give back.
What are your plans after graduation?
Short-term, after graduation I am going to apply to UMBC’s graduate school of Public Policy to pursue my Masters in Public Policy. Long-term, after my completion with school, I would like to become a diplomat, using what I’ve learned here at UMBC at The Universities at Shady Grove and applying it in the workforce.
What advice would you give to a prospective student?
My best advice to prospective students would be to take advantage of the vast array of academia and advanced research available here to students. It’s an opportunity, an opportunity to shape your life and character and they should definitely take advantage of the endless possibilities that are offered at this campus and the willingness of the staff members that power this institution.
