Why did you choose UMBC at The Universities at Shady Grove?
After much research UMBC felt like the right fit for me. I was looking for a respected institution that could give me the opportunity to remain in my community. I selected the Shady Grove campus due to its size. I felt that with a smaller campus I could have more interaction with my professors and be able to receive more personalized assistance.
What do you like best about UMBC-Shady Grove?
UMBC-Shady Grove feels like a community. Everyone knows each other and I have been able to connect with classmates who are share similar interests. I have been able to work closely with the professors and the advisors. Whenever I need assistance someone is always there to help. The staff really loves what they do and it shows in the treatment that students receive.
What internships and/or extracurricular activities have you been involved with at UMBC-Shady Grove?
I will begin my internship in the fall 2010 semester. I was able to find an organization that catered to my future plans and my advisor worked closely with me to find a suitable fit. I have also been involved in the USG Student Council.
What are your plans after graduation?
Upon graduation I plan to enroll in a Master’s program. I would like to begin working in the Social Work field and hopefully five years from now work with the United Nations in International Social Welfare.
What advice would you give to a prospective student?
I would tell prospective students to not be afraid to request help when necessary. Ask many questions and get to know your professors. Most importantly, enjoy the experience!
