Why did you choose UMBC at The Universities at Shady Grove?

I chose UMBC at Shady Grove for several reasons. Having attending Montgomery College, I was accustomed to Montgomery County, and was looking for a school in the area. Once I discovered The Universities at Shady Grove, I also discovered UMBC-Shady Grove. The history program offered small class sizes, which I had become accustomed to and looked for in a program. The facilities were new, and green, which provided a comfortable learning environment. The UMBC staff was incredibly helpful in the application and transfer process, and continues to offer support whenever they can.

What internships and/or extracurricular activities have you been involved with at UMBC-Shady Grove?

While at UMBC-Shady Grove I have enjoyed taking part in the events of the History Students Association, like visiting the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit at the National Geographic Museum. The Universities at Shady Grove offers may different student organizations, which host of a number of events each semester. Some organizations are specialized to the various programs offered at Shady Grove, but there is an organization to suit everyone’s interests. Events like Casino Night and International Night are always a great deal of fun.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan on attending graduate school. The staff at UMBC-Shady Grove has been extremely helpful in finding internships that are exciting, and will help in getting accepted to graduate school. They have also helped with the application process, finding schools, and recommendations, which can be stressful.
