Graduate Degrees
Master of Professional Studies in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology
This graduate program explores and integrates important topics such as organizational behavioral management, human factors and culminates with a professional capstone experience. Our program enables students to develop a professional portfolio while building strong relationships with faculty practitioners and industry professionals. The program offers evening, weekend, and select online courses for busy professionals.
Master of Professional Studies in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
This two-year graduate program embraces the "systems side of GIS" and provides students with the knowledge, tools and techniques of database management, application development, and analytical assessment to appropriately address GIS requirements and answer spatial questions. This forward-looking program is developing the next generation of GIS professionals:those who have a fundamental understanding of the importance of geography as well as an advanced knowledge of the technologies involved in the end-to-end development of advanced geographic information systems.
Master of Professional Studies in Cybersecurity
This 30-credit graduate program will provide an advanced-level of education to professionals working or interested in the region's cybersecurity industry. The program equips students with a strong understanding of the technical components of the cybersecurity field and in-depth knowledge of cybersecurity strategy, policy and management. With exposure to both research faculty and industry practitioners, students will acquire the latest knowledge and skills that will prepare them to make meaningful contributions to the field.
Master of Professional Studies in Biotechnology
This 30-credit graduate program will provide an advanced-level of education to professionals working or interested in the region's biotechnology industry. Designed to prepare science professionals to fill management and leadership roles in biotechnology-related companies or agencies, this unique degree offers an alternative degree option for individuals not interested in pursuing a M.D. or Ph.D. degree.

This undergraduate program offers students an opportunity to develop analytical and communication skills and serves to broaden perspectives on the past. With an emphasis on public history, policy history and international historical perspectives, UMBC's program is designed to encourage the development of good writing and research skills in conjunction with innovative and critical thinking.
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
UMBC's Political Science program at The Universities at Shady Grove prepares students to become a part of the "business" of the Washington metropolitan area. Students learn about the central problems of politics such as the distribution of power and authority in society and the aggregation of preferences across large populations. Students also develop strong analytical and writing skills. The program offers courses in pre-law, public policy, and international affairs that enable students to focus on their core interests and pursue practical learning opportunities through internships at federal, state, and local agencies as well as at international and nongovernmental organizations.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
This popular program provides students the opportunity to learn how basic laboratory research can be translated into treatments, interventions, and policies that improve the quality of life. Students are encouraged to participate in research and internship experiences. Concentrations include Applied Developmental Psychology and Human Services Psychology. Completion of the B.A. provides a strong foundation for careers in psychology, social services, and other public sector professions. Bachelor of Arts in Social Work
This program combines real-world applications with theory and technology to teach students the latest advances in the profession. In addition to high quality classes, the Social Work program features a year-long applied field experience where students actively participate in the delivery of social work services. Our mix of theory, application and technology helps students excel no matter where their education or career may lead.
