John D. Porcari We are pleased to announce the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Fellows Internship Program, an opportunity for us to introduce promising college students to the rewards and challenges of working within the field of Transportation. The Program will provide bright undergraduates entering their senior year with a challenging, hands-on experience in Maryland's integrated transportation system. We encourage you to consider hosting a MDOT Fellows Intern, as we continue to work together to attract talented students to the Maryland Department of Transportation. The MDOT Fellows Internship Program consists of two phases. During the summer, students will participate in an eight-week internship from Monday, June 8 to Friday, July 31, 2009. Students intern full-time in senior-level assignments in one of MDOT's integrated system of agencies, including the Maryland Aviation Administration; Maryland Port Administration; Maryland Transit Administration; Motor Vehicle Administration; and the Maryland State Highway Administration; as well as the Maryland Transportation Authority and The Secretary's Office. During this time, interns will also develop policy papers in teams that address significant issues facing MDOT today. The second phase of the MDOT Fellows Internship Program provides students with the opportunity to participate in a paid, part-time internship in one of MDOT's distinct agencies during the fall or spring semester of their senior year. Interns will be assigned a mentor during these times, who both supervises and accepts the responsibility and challenge of serving as a role model. Download a MDOT Fellows Internship Request Form for summer 2009 placements. The completed Intern Request Forms will assist us in developing successful placements based upon the students' interests and agency needs. In selecting a mentor, please be sure that this individual develops a clear description of the projects to be assigned to the intern and that these projects merit the talent and achievement of Maryland's brightest college students. We hope that you will consider providing interns with opportunities to interact with you, by either including them in meetings in your office or taking them to meetings or events outside of the office. Your completed Summer 2009 Intern Request Forms should be submitted by mail, fax or e-mail to Mr. Wesley Hordge, Manager, Office of Human Resources, MDOT Fellows Internship Program, 7201 Corporate Center Drive, Hanover, MD 21076. Mr. Hordge can be contacted at whordge@mdot.state.md.us, 410-865-1196 via phone, or 410-865-1393 via fax with any questions or concerns. We encourage you to help make the MDOT Fellows Internship Program a meaningful and productive experience for interns and mentors alike. We look forward to continuing this program and working with our institution's best and brightest students this summer.
