Are you interested in enhancing your job skills? Are there insufficient time and resources for the training you desire? If the answer is "Yes", we have a solution for you! The Human Resources Department (HR), in partnership with the Office of Information Technology (OIT), offers a training and development tool which allows faculty and staff an opportunity to enhance their professional and personal skills. SkillSoft e-Learning provides a wide variety of on-line courses that will assist in:

  • building the competencies needed for top performance in your current position
  • developing your potential as you prepare for advanced assignments and promotions; and
  • learning skills that will help you develop your personal interests.

Taking the Time for Learning SkillSoft e-Learning is designed to make learning easier and more convenient for you. With SkillSoft, you train at your own pace and set your own training plan and schedule for completion of courses. SkillSoft courses are available on-line, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be accessed from your PC at home, at work, or anywhere with internet access.

Training Tailored to Your Needs Through audio/visual instruction and live simulation scenarios, SkillSoft e-Learning offers preparation/testing tracks for industry certification in the areas of HR, finance, IT, and many others.

You can brush up on the basics of Microsoft Word/Excel/Access, enhance your customer service skills, or increase your knowledge in other areas such as management/supervisory skills, interviewing techniques, HR regulations, accounting, project planning, sales, marketing, and many IT specific courses.

Most courses offer testing and certificates upon completion, which can be used for professional and personal needs.

For more information about Skillsoft e-Learning, point your web browser to http://www.umbc.edu/skillsoft. Click demo on the left panel of this screen to see a 5-minute demo that will show you the basics. You can also point your web browser to http://www.umbc.edu/training and click the Demo link.

New Users - Before getting started: Use the links in the left panel of this screen to learn more about SkillSoft, including how to navigate, workstation requirements, handy tips, and more.

To log in, use your FULL email address for both username AND password, as shown:

username: johndoe@umbc.edu

password: johndoe@umbc.edu

Once logged in, you can change your password by clicking the "Customize" link at the top of the screen and then choosing "Update your User Profile".

You can search by course number for the course you are taking. You can set up a series of courses you would like in your "plan", review the user guide and get the latest news regarding this exciting new program. Questions about course(s) you should take should be directed to your supervisor.

Course lists: For your convenience, we have provided course listings in two formats: (1) courses by major subjects in three main areas---Desktop, IT, and Business and (2) a complete list of courses in two main areas---Technical and Business & Organizational. Course number and duration are included in the all course listings. Click the course number to see the course descriptions and objectives.
