DAWGS SWEEP REGIONALS - HEAD TO NATIONALS
There was no rest for the Dawgs following the MACHA Playoffs. Back to practice and then on the bus for the drive to Ohio through more winter weather to participate in the ACHA D-2 Southeast Regional Playoffs. Past trips to Ohio for Regionals had not been kind to UMBC - but this was a new set of Dawgs determined to reach thier goal of qualifying for the upcoming National Tournament. First up was Kennesaw State. The Dawgs gave up an early PP goal but roared back to score 4 goals that set the pace for an offensive outpouring that secured win #1. To move on, the Dawgs would need to tame the Wildcats of Kentucky. The matchup was a heavyweight classic. UMBC got out to an early lead but Kentucky battled back to within a goal by the end of 2 periods. UMBC came out in the 3d period and put together 20 minutes of true team hockey. Timely goaltending, tight forechecking, great defensive zone play, and 2 clutch goals were keys to the game and saw UMBC advance out of Regionals for the first time in team history. Congratulations to the players, coaches, staff and fans for their efforts this season! Photos from Southeast Regionals are available here: http://umbchockey.shutterfly.com/
