Penn State Regatta

The UMBC Club Sailing Team traveled up to Penn State to compete in the Penn State Open Regatta on Saturday October 22, 2011. The UMBC Retrievers competed against eight teams in all from all over the northeast region; two Penn State Nittany Lion teams, Webb Institute Clippers, Bucknell Bisons, Ocean County College Vikings, West Point Knights, and the RIT Tigers all competed in the regatta. The morning of the race was crisp and cold with intermittent winds blowing over the lake. The race was started with a light breeze from the WNW. The first UMBC fleet was skippered by junior A. Allison and crewed by freshman K. Sears. The second UMBC fleet was skipped by freshman M. Moubarek and freshman M. Warren.  The Penn State Open was the first ICSA regatta for freshmen K. Sears, M. Moubarek, M. Warren. All in all four out of eight races were completed the remaining races were called because of a lack of wind later in the day. The two UMBC fleets averaged out to seventh place overall.

Keep an eye peeled for more regattas in the spring semester!
