The Club Sports Council of UMBC (CSC) is a governing club dedicated to the advancement of sport- and competition- oriented clubs at UMBC. The CSC has been in place for about 8 years, and now oversees 26 different club sports, each a voluntary member of CSC.
The CSC is in place to act as both a liason between the individual clubs and the Student Government Association, and an individual entity, to promote club level sports at UMBC, through the Office of RecSports, under the rules of the National Intramural, Recreation Sports Administration, but primarily to provide an ongoing discussion and analysis of rules and policies that affect clubs nationwide.
The CSC is made up of at least one representative from each affiliated club sport and meetings are held bi-weekly. At each meeting, upcoming events, pertinent concerns, fund-raising options and policy issues are discussed among the representatives of the club sports, executive board and adviser of the CSC.
With the variety of sports affiliated with the Club Sports Council, the campus community is presented with not only opportunities for recreation, instruction, and competition in more than 20 different sports, but also an alternative to physical education, intramural and varsity competition.
The level of competition varies from club to club; Some Club Sports compete on a national level, practicing 3-5 times a week, while others offer a more relaxed setting practicing only once or twice per week.
