The Sports Club Council of UMBC (SCC) is a governing
club dedicated to the advancement of sport- and competition-
oriented clubs at UMBC. The SCC has been in place for
about 8 years, and now oversees 25 different club sports,
each a voluntary member of SCC.
The
SCC is in place to act as both a liason between the
individual clubs and the Student
Government Association, and an individual entity,
to promote club level sports at UMBC, through the
Office of RecSports, under the rules of the National
Intramural, Recreation Sports Administration, but
primarily to provide an ongoing discussion and analysis
of rules and policies that affect clubs nationwide.
The
SCC is made up of at least one representative from each
affiliated sport club. Meetings are bi-weekly, and announced
on the Calendar of Events.
At each meeting, upcoming events, pertinent concerns,
fund-raising opitons and policy issues are discussed
among the representatives of the sports clubs, executive
board and advisor of the SCC.
With the variety of sports affiliated with the Sports
Club Council, the campus community is presented with
not only opportunities for recreation, instruction,
and competition in more than 20 different sports,
but also an alternative to physical education, intramural
and varsity competition.
The
level of competition varies from club to club; Some
Sport Clubs compete on a national level, practicing
3-5 times a week, while others offer a more relaxed
setting practicing only once or twice per week.
