Black and White Fractals Mathematics and Science
Students at UMBC, as well as most other prestigious universities, often have difficulties with mathematics and science courses, resulting in a high drop-out rate. Also, many of our students come to this university with inadequate skill levels for succeeding in these courses at the university level.
To counter these facts, Students Support Services has established the Mathematics/Science Specialist postion to assist students in overcoming challenges with these courses. The Math/Science Specialist can aide students with:
  1. One-to-one counseling and concept building--where students can receive direct help with difficult concepts, and ideas for developing study skills.
  2. Tutor Recommendation--a first stop for finding an appropriate tutor for a challenging course.
  3. Math/Science Study Skills Workshops--available once or twice per academic year. Here, students can get some invaluable ideas on how to effectively organize for learning and survive science and math courses.
The Math/Science Specialist will help students with upper level courses on a discussion basis. Individual sessions with the Math/Science Specialist can be scheduled.
