Long-time Ministry Students Graduate
Left to Right, Erica Ostrofsky and Lindsay Morrell -- who have been active members of our group since the beginning of their Freshman year, September 2004 -- are shown above at their last LECM meeting, shortly before their graduation from UMBC.
Our Students Go to Prison
On Saturday, April 26, several of our students and Lutheran Chaplain Matthew Day visited the Women's Prison in Jessup. They shared in a worship service with some of the inmates, and also in a theological discussion.
Labyrinth at UMBC
As a free service to the UMBC community, the Lutheran & Episcopal Campus Ministry imported a labyrinth to the UC ballroom on April 16, 12-6pm. Students and University staff joined in walking this secret path to “the center,” a medieval spiritual discipline practiced in the cathedrals of Europe. In a quiet candlelit atmosphere with chant music playing softly in the background, participants were able to walk, pause, pray and reflect at their own pace.
Ministry participates in Feedmore Project
From March 6-8 our Ministry group carried through a project to feed the hungry in Baltimore City. First the food was purchased in large lots at a discount food club, and the next day students made sandwiches, added snacks and packed individual food bags for distribution. On Friday evening, the eighth, a different group of students (pictured below) rode on the Salvation Army van to pass out the food bags to the hungry at established pick-up points and shelters in the city. Feedmore is a project of the Salvation Army, which provides warehouse storage for donated food and a van and driver for delivery. The cost of the food for our delivery was underwritten by the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. Mr. Frank Russell of St. John’s, Mt. Washington, contacted Episcopal Chaplain Menalcus Lankford to make us aware of this opportunity.
Despite a rainy night, our students reported this as a good and meaningful experience in Christian sharing which they will not soon forget.

Proud of our students -- Colin, Meghan and Rob -- who rode on the Feedmore van to deliver food bags to the hungry in Baltimore. They are pictured in front of mural in Salvation Army warehouse. Other students helped out a lot too, by making the sandwiches and packing the food bags.
