Officer and Staff Nominations

Wednesday, April 11

Hello everyone!

Here it is, later than it should be: everything about becoming an officer or staff member of UMBC's Anime Society. In order for our little club to exist next academic year we need to have all 4 officer positions filled, and it would be very helpful to the new officers if they had all the staff positions filled. It's worth mentioning that next academic year should be smoother, as SGA just finished most of their overhauls and we can give the incoming officers and staff a good breakdown of how the semester will probably go.

Nominations are already open, and will remain open until we have people running for each position. To nominate yourself, all you have to do is send an email to the officer's email with your name and what position/s you want to run for. It's a year long commitment for something you can put on your resume! To be eligible, you must be a member (you're getting this email, right?) and have attended at least 2 meetings (of any kind) during this semester.

In addition, if you want to be an officer you must be an undergraduate with at least a 2.0 GPA. Staff can be graduate students, etc., but the officers MUST be undergraduates.

Responsibilities:

Officers: You need to be able to hold a 1 hour meeting every week (currently we have ours on Fridays during free hour) and be able to attend meetings (since, well, you kind of need to run them). You are responsible for providing at least 2 movies for the socials (1 for each), ~20 hours of officer picks (2 hours for each social, as well as 8 hours for each marathon). There are also the following specific responsibilities, which we will cover in greater detail when we teach the upcoming officers:

President: Be the face of the club to other students, the faculty, etc. Also responsible for reserving the rooms for our regular showings, marathon, and making the reservation for chalking as advertising for marathon.

Vice President: The basic running of each viewing defaults to the VP (i.e. setting up the computer, making sure you have the necessary titles beforehand, putting up BYOA), although these responsibilities can be spread out depending on how each group of officers feel. The VP is also responsible for setting up the marathon, which requires watching the AMVs people submit, running the Marathon Committee which decides 1/3 of what we watch at marathon (the genre blocks), as well as setting up the schedule for the event (the pamphlet design).

Treasurer: The treasurer's domain encompasses everything that has to do with money, mainly in the form of filling out the proper documentation to pay for club expenses (which are generally smaller than other clubs on campus).

Secretary: Reasonably simple: the secretary has to attend every meeting to take note of how many people show up (based on a sign-in sheet) and record other relevant statistics, such as the shows we watch for BYOA and how many votes they receive.

Staff: Staff do not have to show up for officer meetings or even provide anime (although they are free to do so if the officers have problems). They should show up for marathon, but that isn't a requirement per se. Their individual responsibilities are as follows:

Technology Chair: Have basic technological information in case the computer (or more likely the projector) fails.

Historian: Take pictures during showings, especially rarer occasions like the socials, marathon, cookout, Halloween cosplay, etc.

Advertising: Put up spotlights on MyUMBC, make the fliers we use for advertising, and ensure that the club is adequately promoted.

Web Master: Maintain our website and keep it updated.

Lounge Entertainment: During socials and marathons, we like to have video games, etc. to give people a break from anime or socializing. Lounge Entertainment coordinates these efforts and ensures nothing is stolen.

To nominate yourself for a position, simply send in your name to the officer's email with what position you would like to nominate yourself for.

We'll be holding the elections next Friday, so send in your nominations while we're still taking them!

Until Friday night!
