Events Introduced
- March 27th, 2009 - T-Shirt Sales Commence
Purpose: For the longest time, members of the club have wanted a t-shirt, and the answer to "Why don't we have one" was ALWAYS "We don't know. So we did something about it. Using our cool new mascots, we made a shirt (which can be viewed here). We officially started selling them at the March 27th, 2009 showing.
- March 13th, 2009 - Officer Night Introduced
Purpose: The genres nominated for BYOA hours have become very predictable. Part of the club's purpose is the expose its members to new series and genres. Theme Night was intended to restrict the nominations during BYOA to 2 specific genre. The idea worked in theory, but it didn't truely flurish. As an alternative to the idea, the officers decided to test out an officer night. In BYOA fashion, the members will get final voting-say on which title we end up watching. Here's the catch: the officer's pick the titles. The officers tend to have a little broader title base (also no one genre intentially dominates our collections) and since the officers don't normally get to put up titles for BYOA anyways, the thought was to kill two birds with one stone. To summarize the idea, the officers pick the titles, and then the members vote on them.
- January 26th, 2009 - Kouhai Program
Purpose: Normally at least half of the current administration is available to come back and provide not only the experience they've already gained but also guidance for new officers and staff. Unfortunately, that is not the case this year. At the end of this year, 3/4 of the administration will be ineligible to return. Another reason we're running this program is to give those interested in being an officer or staff member a survey of the behind-the-scenes work we do to allow the club to function. Being an officer or staff member is a lot of fun, but there *is* work involved, more than people normally think. This would be a way for you to see a small sample of exactly what you'd be signing up for by holding a position. Yet another reason is to preserve our heritage. We're all for moving forward, but it's easier to do that when you know where you've been.
- September 19th - October 31st, 2008 - Mascot Contest
Purpose: The current officers felt that the club needed a new mascot. Let's face it, the Squirrel-girl just wasn't cutting it anymore. Instead of designating the job to someone, the officers decided to hold a contest in an attempt to generate member involvement within the club.
Winner: Kristen Rethy. Thanks for the mascot, Kristen!
Runner Up: Caitlin Leroy. You made it a tough call, Caitlin!
- November 2nd, 2007 - Theme Night Introduced
Purpose: The genres nominated for BYOA hours have become very predictable. Part of the club's purpose is the expose its members to new series and genres. Theme Night was intended to restrict the nominations during BYOA to 2 specific genre. The hope is that this will not only introduce new and different titles, but it will also ask members to put some thought into the titles they're nominating.
