Welcome to the Ballroom Dance club!
We have Dance lessons that are being offered this Spring!
Important: The classes have both leaders and followers for dance partners. It is not necessary to provide your own dance partner (although you are more than welcome to bring people) because the partners rotate in our classes. This is done so people can learn to lead and follow anyone, as opposed to being able to lead or follow just one person.
Ballroom: Students 1/2 off at the Promenade on Fridays
As you may already know, the Promenade offers 1/2 off Friday coupons to students. In order to receive them, however, you need to join the facility's mailing list. A link to join is located at the bottom of the Promenade's front page: http://www.mddancesport.com/.
When you sign up, there is an option to provide additional information (name, address, etc). On this form, select "Student Dancer." The coupons will be emailed to you once a week.
Go to the Promenade's website to sign up
New this semester: Outings to other Maryland area venues! Some of our other students have expressed interest in teaming up with the Towson students and going to similar dance halls in large group outings. We thought that was a great idea! Other possible Ballroom venues include:
Hollywood Ballroom (Silver Spring)
Chevy Chase Ballroom (Chevy Chase)
Mobtown Ballroom (Baltimore)
Towson Dance Studio (Timonium)
Atlantic Ballroom (Towson)
Latin Palace. This is one of the venues our club likes to frequent for Salsa dancing when we go on our group outings. Different people like different venues. The Latin palace is 18 and up; Lessons are not included in the price of admission.
Other Salsa venues (reportedly* 21+) include:
The Havana Club (Baltimore City),
La Palapa (Ellicott City),
Azul 17 (Columbia);
*Some of these venues are restaurants, not bars. There are currently ongoing debates about whether the age restriction is enforced for Salseros and Salseras who don't drink (i.e. prefer to dance sober, which for the UMBC Ballroom Dance Community, is all of us).
For more information on Salsa dancing in the Baltimore/DC area you can check out " the Baltimore Salsa Blog" at this website: http://www.BaltimoreSalsaBlog.com/
