Swing Dance Instructor
Matt Misroch began teaching as a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studios. He helped start up UMBC's extremely successful Salsa program back in 2011 along with our current UMBC Salsa Instructor Genaro Hernandez. Now Matt is working on starting up the next big dance program at UMBC. One instructor; all types of swing. Come join Matt Misroch as he gives expert instruction and insight into the different types of Swing dance currently danced at some of the hottest clubs in Maryland.
Nightclub: West Coast Swing and Hustle
Christina has been dancing and competing in Ballroom Dance since 2005. Over the last several years, Christina has been competing and placing in West Coast Swing and Hustle NASDE (National Association of Swing Dance Events) competitions throughout the country over the last several years. While Hustle and Swing are quite popular in Philadelphia and DC, the Baltimore area hasn't quite caught up to our surrounding neighbor's numbers. Looking forward to changing that, Christina is bringing her years of dance experience, her talent and wisdom, and her incredibly fun disposition to UMBC to help make us the Hustle and Swing dancers she knows we can be. Christina can be reached for private instruction in Woodlawn, MD.
Nightclub: Salsa and Bachata
Most dance classes are very technically oriented and it takes years of practice in dance clubs to develop that long sought after, and highly desired, "street" element. Genaro brings both to his classes. Genaro has a unique advantage in that he has dance in his culture and he brings those cultural elements to the classroom. From a technical standpoint, Genaro has trained under and alongside local and national dance studio professionals, such as professional dance instructor Matt Misroch, who was recently hired by Arthur Murray dance studios.
One of Genaro's key strengths is his ability to make the classroom a fun, learning environment, as well as an overall, memorable experience. Genaro is very good about organizing outings to the Salsa clubs of Baltimore for his students. This invaluable aspect of Genaro's teaching style pleasantly connects the classroom to the dance hall, which allows for fantastic opportunities. During these outings, students can get real dance club experience while having a safe and fun group of familiar friends around them at all times. We cannot emphasize enough how awesome this is for students who are new to the dance scene.
