UMBC Wins the 2009 President's Cup The UMBC Chess team has beaten the University of Texas-Dallas (UTD) to win the 2009 President's Cup. Entering the final round down 5-6 against UTD, UMBC beat UTD 2.5-1.5, resulting in a 7.5-7.5 tie in individual points and a 2-2 tie on match points. The head-to-head encounter of Round 3 broke the tie, resulting in a UMBC victory. UMBC has now won five of the nine years the competition has existed.
