2006 Pan-Am Scholastic Team Chess Championship: Scholarship Prize
to University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)

Winner receives a four-year tuition scholarship to UMBC (current value approximately $69,416).

UMBC offers the winner of the 2006 Pan-American Scholastic Team Chess Championship (Scholastic) a fixed-dollar, four-year incoming-tuition scholarship to UMBC (current value approximately $69,416). The scholarship will be offered to the highest-finishing individual in the Scholastic who accepts the award, through third place. To qualify, the recipient must be accepted to UMBC and matriculate at UMBC directly from high school. To retain the award, the student must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4-point scale) and earn at least 12 credit hours per semester. If the student has not yet graduated from high school, the award will await the student upon graduation. The scholarship will last for up to four years, or until the student graduates from UMBC (if less than four years). While at UMBC, the recipient must qualify for and play on a UMBC Chess Team, and contribute to the community service activities of the UMBC Chess Club. The award covers full tuition and fees for the first year; in the remaining years the scholarship continues at that same dollar level. The award does not include room or board. The award is not retroactive. The recipient is also eligible to be considered for possible additional awards (e.g., for room and board, honors program) based on academic merit.
