Alex is in his 5th year at UMBC. After graduating with a cum laude bachelor's degree in Political Science this past May, Alex is pursuing a Masters degree in Public Policy. His chess career began when he was 5 years old in Kiev, Ukraine. When he arrived in the United States, Alex won multiple State Championship titles in both middle and high school. He led his high school chess team (Pikesville High) to two state championships. As an eight time participant in the annual sweet sixteen tournament, Alex captured the coveted prize of a full four year scholarship to UMBC. This is Alex's third time at the annual World Series of College Chess known as the Pan-Ams.
