Greg shunned competitive chess until his brother finally coerced him into playing in the 2004 UMBC Chess Championship, in which he performed with great skill and aplomb. He was immediately ushered onto the team, which afterward shone all the more brightly in the chess firmament. Finding competition vulgar, Greg generally avoids tournaments unless they hold some promise of urban nightlife and revelry in the company of friends. His most notable chess accomplishment is 2nd place in U2000 at the 2005 World Open in Philadelphia.
