Job Staff Member in the Office of Undergraduate Education
Other My undergraduate degrees include a BS in Equine Science and a BA in Business Education which I received at William Woods University. I have a M.Ed. from Lynchburg College in Counseling and a Certificate of Advanced Study from Loyola in Pastoral Counseling.
Hometown My father was career military so I don't really have a home town or state. I was born in Virginia but most of my family is originally from East Tennessee.
Riding Discipline My primary focus is show hunters, however, I have ridden dressage, western, and saddle seat.
Experience I have been riding since I was 10 years old, trust me...that's a long time. I have schooled green horses as well as successfully competed at "A" horse shows. I have a "B" Pony Club rating and have competition experience eventing as well. I taught in the riding program at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls for two years. They have a light horse management track as part of their Animal Science program. From there I went to Sweet Briar College, where I was an instructor in the Riding Program for 13 years. I coached several teams and/or individuals to National, State and IHSA titles. I am a National Judge for the Affiliated National Riding Committee and a #1 rated rider. I have the opportunity to judge rating centers for this organization and also judge locally.
Trainer I have just moved my young horse to Friend's Circle in Davidsonville. I hope to be able to ride with someone on their staff.
Accomplishments The past few years, I have been competing in the breeding divisions as an Amateur Handler. "Hudson" has done very well showing on the line and has begun his under saddle career as well. Also, I have been lucky to have some nice horses to hack for friends.
Goals It would be wonderful to have an opportunity to show in the Adult Amateur division if the opportunity should present itself; however, right now I am just enjoying bringing Hudson along. The focus over the next year will be his flat work and starting him over gymnastics and introducing him to jumping. Horses provide me with a much needed break from work and other responsibilities. I find that they bring out the best in me and provide me with a way to be involved with nature. It is definitely good for my soul.
