| Dan is returning the Retriever Coaching Staff as Head Coach and General Manager for 2004-05 his second full season. Dan hails from Buffalo, NY where he played for Saint Joseph's Collegiate Institute prep school and the Niagara Falls Cataracts Junior B team. He moved to Maryland in 1998 where he obtained his advanced coaching certificate and has been coaching DeMatha Catholic high school and Bantam A for the Chesapeake Chiefs organization of the Capital Beltway (CBHL) as a head coach. He has worked as an instructor in summer camps and has expanded his knowledge of the game by attending various clinics and assisting with other teams throughout the Maryland area, and recently received his Masters Level Certification from USA Hockey. Dan is also a Product Support Specialist of BioHorizons Implant Systems, specializing in dental implants and oral reconstruction products. | Chris Wood - Associate Coach_________________________ | |
| Chris is entering his sixth season with UMBC, this year serving as Associate Coach and General Manager. Originally from New Jersey, he played youth hockey in New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Maryland before playing Juniors and beginning his collegiate career at Ocean County College. After two successful seasons, he transferred to UMBC where he captained UMBC to two straight MDCHA championship games. He finished his collegiate career leading UMBC in All-time assists and is second in All-time scoring. Coach Wood is certified by USA Hockey and recently completed his Masters thesis. He has previously coached Midget A and Bantam A for the Chesapeake Bay Chiefs of the Capital Beltway Hockey League (CBHL). Chris is also a licensed Physical Therapist, specializing in orthopedics, and works in the Baltimore Area. He resides in Millersville, MD with his wife Kate and newborn son Colin. | Dr. Steve Hauser PhD - Assistant Coach_________________ | |
| Steve is returning
to the Retriever coaching staff for his third year as an Assistant Coach
for the 2004-2005 season. Originally from southeastern Pennsylvania, Steve
began his playing career 18 years ago and ended his competitive play as
UMBC's team captain and motivating force in 2002. Coach Hauser is certified
by USA Hockey and has worked as an instructor in summer camps; additionally,
he has expanded his knowledge of the game by attending various clinics.
Steve recently received his doctorate from UMBC in Organic Chemistry where he developed and synthesized potential anti-cancer compounds. He is now developing and synthesizing anti-HIV/AIDS compounds at the Institute of Human Virology in Baltimore, Maryland. He currently resides in Baltimore, MD. Contact Coach: hauser@umbc.edu |

| Roy Backman - Assistant Coach________________________ | |
| Backman
begins his first season with UMBC as the defensive coach. He holds, a
level 5 masters coaching credential with USA Hockey, and has over 10 years
of coaching experience. As an assistant coach for the Spalding Tier 1
Varsity program, his team captured 2nd place in the MIAA and 5th in MSHL
playoffs. Coach Backman brings years of experience both on the ice and
behind the bench, and is a welcome addition to the Retrievers this season. Roy is a native of Long Island, New York, and a graduate of SUNY Stony Brook, 1986 BS, and Adelphi University, 1993 MS – Geology. Backman played High School hockey with Bethpage, NY Eagles. | Justin Marksamer - Goaltender Coach___________________ | |
| Justin begins this his first full season as the UMBC Ice Hockey goaltender coach after starting for 4 seasons for UMBC between 1999 and 2003. Currently the career record holder for saves, shots faced, and wins in a season, Justin brings over 17 years of ice hockey experience. Coach Marksamer is certified by USA Hockey and has run summer goaltender camps and plans on continuing his coaching certification this season. Justin graduated from UMBC in 2003 with a VPA in Imaging and Digital Arts. He currently works for Titan Digital Communications as a Web/Multimedia Designer and Animator. | Jim Lister - Goaltender Coach__________________________ | |
| Jim is joining the Retriever Coaching Staff as Goaltender Coach and Goaltender Recruiter for the 2003-04 season. He has eleven years coaching experience with both the Howard County Youth Hockey Club and more recently with the Calvert Hall College High School program where he was goaltender coach for both the varsity and JV teams. Jim completed the USA Hockey Master Level in January 2002 with his thesis entitled, "Goaltending at the High School Level". Coach Lister owns his own photography business, is President of the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce for 2001-2002, and was with the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division for 20 years. Jim resides in Catonsville, MD. |

Dan is entering his sixth season as the UMBC Recruitment Coordinator. He is responsible for publicizing and facilitating the recruiting process. Specifically, he disperses team and university information, organizes player visit days and Recruit Weekends, and assists recruits throughout the admissions process.
