All Japan Kendo Championship Tour
Susumu Takanabe sensei, Kendo Renshi 6 Dan, winner of the All Japan Kendo Championship in 2010 and 2011, will be touring the US this December to give a series of Kendo seminars. Takanabe sensei will be conducting seminars in New York City, the DC area, Detroit and Chicago. Capital Area Budokai (Northern Virginia Budokai) in cooperation with Shidogakuin DC will host Takanabe sensei at the Herndon Community Center in Herndon, VA on the evening of Monday, December 10. We will most likely carpool to the seminar that day. All members are encouraged to go with us to the seminar.
End of Semester Holiday Party
We will have end of the semester holiday party on Friday, December 7th at 7pm in Harbor Hall multipurpose room, we hope to see everyone there!
UMBC Kendo Tournament
We are happy to announce that we will be hosting our first Kendo tournament at UMBC Kendo club on Saturday, February 2nd 2013 in RAC. This will be good way to start off the year’s tournament season, and great learning experience for beginner students; there will most likely be two mudansha divisions (upto 3-kyu and 1/2 kyu). We welcome Vincent Lan sensei, 6-Dan as our shinpan-cho, and Phuong Hoang sensei, 5-Dan. We have our gym reserved until 7pm, there will be plenty of time for godo keiko after the tournament.
