History:
Although the Persian Student Association of UMBC has been around for more than a decade, the recent emergence of the organization began in fall 2005 were a group of dedicated UMBC students attempted to revive the organization. The fall 2005 and the subsequent spring passed while the newly emerged organization was struggling to gather more financial and human resources. During this time the organization grew bigger both financially and in the number of member. One of the significant activities of this time period was the display of animated documentary on Persian history, “Persepolis Recreated”, on big screen on campus.

On fall 2006, the organization returned under new management. Using its strong social network and the financial resources available, the Persian Student Association held its first celebration of “Yalda Night”, which gathered an audience of about a hundred people, offering a divers program which entertained a wide spectrum of audience from all age groups. The organization rapidly picked up momentum and in spring 2007 organized its largest cultural celebration, “NoRouz”, or the Persian New Year. The celebration was a big success and brought about three hundred people together to celebration the coming of spring and the beginning of the Persian New Year.

The “NoRouz” celebration was recognized as the “Best Cultural/Diversity Event of the Year” by UMBC and was given the Retriever Black and Gold Award of the year 2007. In addition to “NoRouz” celebration, the Persian Student Association also sponsored an event called “Charter for World Peace”, and also took part in several campus wide events such as the “Involvement Fest” and the “New Student Day”.

In fall 2007, once again, the organization returns under new management and organizes its second annual “Yalda Night” celebration which gathers twice the audience of the previous year. The Persian Student Association is currently working on the organization of its second annual “NoRouz” Celebration.
