  • Meditation: A Proper Understanding
With the many types of meditation being taught and practiced today, meditation means different things to different people. It can often create confusion for the average person. This article, first published in The Healing Way, Spring 1998, attempts to answer the most basic questions such as: "What does 'meditation' mean? Will it help me in my search? If yes, what system should I practice?"

  • The Living Tradition of Sahaj Marg (by Shri Clark Powell )
Puts Sahaj Marg in perspective with other forms of yoga. Its relation to the historic eight fold Raja Yoga is given. Cleaning, a unique aspect of this system that is central to its efficacy is then explained:

"Serious difficulties arise when meditation is practiced independently in accordance with methods prescribed in books. One has to keep on struggling with the mind in order to suppress its unceasing activities. This continues all the time and there is practically no meditation at all, since all the time given to meditation is lost in struggling against thoughts and tendencies. What Pranahuti1 does for the spiritual uplift of a person and removal of complexities in a short time, independent efforts cannot achieve even in a full decade." In Sahaj Marg, this "removal of complexities" is called, simply enough, "cleaning."

The final section, ``The Simple Way", describes the practice. Above all, it is emphasized that Sahaj Marg is a practical method designed to give the direct experience of realization, right here, right now, in the midst of our daily situations. Thus all one needs is willingness to test it.

  • What is Raj Yoga
'Raja yoga' literally means the king of yogas. This is a very grand title for a branch of yoga that is not as popular or as well-known as others, and that sometimes appears quite obscure. This article aims to demystify raja yoga, exploring the underlying philosophy, and most importantly its relevance for us in today's world.

  • The Roots of Sahaj Marg
Gives the principal branches yoga, and puts Sahaj Marg (Natural Path), in their relation. Explains how Sahaj Marg, though being a simplified form of Raj Yoga, its practice is holistic, integrating the main branches of yoga.
