USA Science and Engineering Festival

USA Science and Engineering Festival

Event Summary

On October 24th 2010, our officers were proud to represent the chapter and department by assisting with the staffing of the SIAM booth at the USA Science and Engineering festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It was estimated that more than a million people attended the festival which was aimed at inspiring young people in the pursuits of science.
Our officers showed how Mathematics could be used to model real life phenomenon such as surface tension through a very simple yet interesting experiment involving soap, water, and pepper. The crowd also had the chance to discover what a cycloid was and some of its interesting properties.

More details about the event can be found on the official USA Science & Engineering Festival website here.
