Do I need to know how to play tennis?

Because the UMBC Club Tennis Team plays competitively, we expect that all members have at least at least an intermediate skill level (preferably former high school players, or 3.0 and above NTRP level, although for girls we are a little bit more lenient.)

How is practice run?

Normally, we begin and end by hitting around and warming up/down. The majority of practice consists of drills and match-play. Group work out sessions will be held during the winter and when practice is cancelled due to inclement weather.

Is there a coach?

Most practices are student run, however, on occasion the head coach from the UMBC Tennis Team will come to our practices and help us. We are in the process of finding another coach.

Do I get anything from joining the club? What are the perks?

Besides competing against other schools and improving your tennis skills, you get to become a part of an AWESOME, close-knit tennis team that are friends on and off the court. Plus, dri-fit uniforms will be provided for team members, as well as free giveaways at tournaments. But, as stated before, the best part of joining the team is honing your skills and meeting great new people.

Is there a fee?

Because we are currently not funded by UMBC's Sport Club Council, there will be an small, annual membership fee.

How much time will the Club Tennis Team take up during my week?

It is required that team members attend all practices during the week, unless they contact us beforehand with a valid excuse (illness, exam the next day, paper to write, class, etc.) Although not finalized for the upcoming semester, there will be around 2-4 practices per week, with each practice lasting for about 2 hours. Matches will be played on the weekends (Saturdays, or Sundays in case of rain).
