Hey again! Welcome back! This is my page all about the constellation named Scorpius. Here you will find everything you need to know about Scorpius and more. Well to start off Scorpius has 4 major stars they are: Antares, Dschubb, Sargas, and Shaula. Below is a table with a lilttle more information on each star.

Star: Antares ~~~~~> Anatares is a cool red colored star. The effective temperature is about 3100 K.The star is approximately 10,000 times as luminous as the sun. Antares A supposedly would have a mass of 10 to 15 times that of the sun.

Star: Dschubb ~~~~~> The Dschubb star is blue and about 1600 times as luminous(brighter)as the sun and 6 times the diameter of the sun.

Star: Sargas ~~~~~> Sargas is a yellowish star. Having a luminosity about 1100 times that of the sun.

Star: Shaula ~~~~~> Shaula is also a blue star. According to the The Bright Star Catalog, the star is a spectroscopic binary, meaning(A binary star system that is identified by periodically shifting lines in its spectrum.) The star orbits with a 5.6 day period.

*~*A little more about Scorpius*~*

Scorpius is one of the oldest constellations known - possibly even one of the original six signs of the zodiac. The constellation was once much larger, but the western portion representing the claws of the scorpion was given to Libra. Alpha Sco, or Antares, is one of the four Royal Stars of the ancient Persians.

Mythology<~~~~
To the ancient Greeks, the constellation Scorpius was the image of a scorpion. The constellation was related to the death of the hunter Orion. There are several different stories about Orion's death. According to one story, Orion wanted to kill all the earth's wild animals. However, the earth goddess Gaia was not pleased with Orion's intention. So, she sent a giant scorpion to attack Orion. No matter how hard he tried, Orion could not defeat the scorpion. When he tried to escape, the scorpion stung him to death with its poisonous tail.
