Polarbears

this page is going to tell you how polarbears act to their cubs  and to other preditors and how they act in the wild white as i call it their will be links to outher cites and pictures of these wild white animales

as you can see some of theses polarbears are friendly to outher polarbears but are they friendly to outher species that is the question.

     matting

 Sexual maturity.

1. Female polar bears reach sexual maturity at about 4 years  .

2. Male polar bears reach sexual maturity at about 6 years.

3. Most male polar bears don't successfully mate until 8 to 10 years and older.
POLAR BEARS "Ursus Martimus" to Eskimos as "Nanooks"
meaning the great white bear. They live in the circumpolar North,
they are animals with no boundaries. This large meat-eating hunter
are excellent swimmers with a thick, oily fur that sheds seawater and
helps insulates the bear against the cold. They may weigh more then
1,500 pounds, there high fat-diet is the blubber of seals and can
consume 100 pounds at one sitting. Polar bear is astonishingly agile
and there paws forepaws are about 14 inches wide on a mature bear.
Despite the polar bear's awesome size, it does not live completely free
of danger, large seals nimbler in the water then the polar bear, and the
Arctic wolves on the mainland may try to separate a mother bear
from her young. But though man is it's worst enemy, the only animal a
polar bear really fears is the walrus, a formidable opponent that is
thoroughly at  home in the ocean and is armed with tusks that may
grow 30 inches long. If a bear knows there is a walrus in the water the polar bear will not go in to the water.  As the arctic nights
become almost continuous in winter, the mother polar bear digs a den in drifted snow. About one month later her cubs are born and
she stays with them and suckles them for around three more month. Spring arrives and the family emerges cubs well fed and the
mother hungry, the polar bear mother may lose up to a quarter of her normal body weight. Biologist estimate there are between
20,000 to 40,000 in the polar bear population

1. Breeding takes place in April and May on the sea ice.

2. During the breeding season, males and females find each other by congregating in the best
seal-hunting habitats.

springtime is mating seson for polarbears, with most of its activity taks place in april.the male seek the avlibal females. most females bread every third yearafter seperating from their young cubs that is. in october and november, polarbears dig dens in the snow.these dens are mostly located on south facing sloes or hills where northly winds  pile up large amounts of snow.

3. Male polar bears have been seen following the tracks of breeding female polar bears for more
than 100 km (62 mi.). Scientists are uncertain what signals males use to track breeding females.

4. Competition for females is intense. Females breed about once every three years; therefore,
there are about three adult males to every breeding female.

  1. The hind limbs are longer than the forelimbs. This makes the large,
muscular hind end stand higher than the shoulders. 2.Polar bear legs are large and stocky.

3.Feet are five-toed paws.

E. Head.

1. A polar bear's head is oblong and relatively small compared to body size. The muzzle is
elongated with a "Roman-nosed" (slightly arched) snout.

2. The nose is broad and black.

3. Teeth.

    a. Polar bears have 42 teeth, which they use for catching food and for aggressive behavior.

    b. Polar bears use their incisors to shear off pieces of blubber and flesh.

    c. Canine teeth grasp prey and tear tough hides.

    d. Jagged premolars and molars tear and chew.

    e. Polar bears swallow most food in large chunks rather than chewing.

4. A polar bear's eyes are dark brown, set relatively close together, and look forward.

5. The ears are small and rounded, and lay flat when under water.

F.Tail.

The tail is small, about 7 to 12 cm (2.8-4.7 in.) long.

G.Hair.

1.Polar bears are completely furred except for the nose and footpads, which are black.

2.A polar bear's coat is about 2.5 to 5 cm (1.2 in.) thick. A dense, woolly, insulating layer of
underhair is covered by a relatively thin layer of stiff, shiny, clear guard hairs.

3.Polar bear fur is oily and water repellent. The hairs don't mat when wet, allowing the polar
bears to easily shake free of water and any ice that may form after swimming. Ice forms when the
wet fur is exposed to air temperatures at or below freezing.

4.The hairs reflect light, giving a polar bear its white coloration. Oxidation from the sun, or
staining, can make the hairs look yellow or brown.

5.Polar bears completely molt (shed and replace their fur) annually, in May or June. The molt
can last several weeks.

H.Skin.

A polar bear's skin is black.

Eating

Polar bears feed mainly on ringed or bearded seals. When seals are unavailable, polar bears eat
other marine mammals, reindeer, small rodents, sea birds, ducks, fish, eggs, vegetation (including
                         kelp), berries, and human garbage.

2. On occasion, polar bears kill young walruses and beluga whales.

3. When other food is unavailable, polar bears eat reindeer, small rodents, seabirds, ducks, fish,
eggs, vegetation (including kelp), berries, and human garbage.
