The habitat for the American Alligator  is in primarily fresh water swamps and   marshes.They also live in rivers, lakes and small bodies of  water.They  can tolerate a reasonable degree of sainity, being occasionally found in brackish water around mangrove swamps not like a Crocodile that lives in salt water.
