10-Minute Play Festival

New Theatrical Works for Young Actresses and All Audiences

As the cornerstone for our IN10 FESTIVAL, the UMBC Department of Theatre seeks 10-minute plays written for female characters age 16 to 30 that feature clearly defined roles for young women. We are looking for scripts that address the complex relationships between women. Our festival focuses on the underrepresented needs, goals, responsibilities and desires of women under thirty.

The In10 Festival seeks scripts with no limit of historical period, genre or subject matter. We want scripts that speak to the universal experiences of young women.

For best consideration:

--The play should have both a female antagonist and protagonist.

--The play need not have an all female cast, but the dramatic action should focus on these characters.

--The text must not be a monologue--NO MONOLOGUES. We are looking specifically for scenes that contain dramatic actions between female characters.

There is a $1,000 prize for the script that best achieves this mission. Four to six scripts will be selected for a fully rehearsed staged reading in February of 2007. These readings will be accompanied by the performance of a new short play by noted playwright Heather McDonald commissioned especially for the festival.

Scripts must be postmarked by October 1, 2007
