William T. Brown has been in theatre for more than 45 years.
In 1997 he retired from UMBC after 27 years as a teacher, administrator, designer, and theatre technician. For 18 of those years he served as the Department of Theatre Chair and was responsible for the creation and development of the theatre major. In 1985 he founded the Shakespeare on Wheels project, the unique student traveling theatre that toured the area for 10 years during the summer months. He served as Shakespeare on Wheels Executive Director, production designer and producer. Throughout his career, he has designed more than 150 stage sets; many have received awards and special accolades. Since retirement he has been active in community theatre productions with the Columbia Players, the Arena Players of Baltimore, and The Audrey Herman Spotlighter’s Theatre of Baltimore. He has also returned to the UMBC theatre to design student productions.
