PROGRAMS
B.A. in Theatre Studies
Students interested in multiple areas of theatre practice develop an array of skills in both technical
production and performance through this dynamic, flexible track. Those pursuing the BA in Theatre
Studies produce traditional theatre and devise new works by serving as
directors, dramaturges, designers, performers and playwrights in an
ensemble-based training. The track provides a rigorous
course of study in technical production with training on state of the
art scenic, audio and lighting equipment. The degree is ideally
suited for the double-major wishing to combine this BA in creative
practice with other undergraduate studies.
B.A. in Theatre Design and Production
Students with an interest in Theatre Design and Production will study with faculty who are
professionals in the field. Our new state-of-the art Proscenium Theatre and Black Box Theatre are
supported with the most sophisticated technology labs and equipment. In this track, five areas
of design/theatre production are offered: stage management, scenery, costuming, lighting
and sound. These majors have opportunities to work with faculty and guest design assistants,
and they serve as designers on student directed productions. They also can serve as a stage
manager, master carpenter, master electrician, props master, draper, crafts person, and stitcher
on a range of department productions and student projects.
B.F.A. in Acting
The B.F.A. in Acting track is designed for students who are interested in an intensive
performance program leading to the pursuit of graduate study and/or careers in professional
acting. These students immerse themselves in advanced technique in acting, voice,
and movement courses, and learn the application of these skills to characterization in a wide
range of productions in which they perform.
* In all theatre tracks, students complete the full General Distribution Requirements of the
university.
