ELENA
ZLOTESCU
Associate Professor
Professor Zlotescu teaches courses in set, costume, stage make-up
and fashion design at UMBC. From 1987-2002 she was an Associate
Artist and set and costume designer of the Maryland Stage Company,
the professional company in residence at UMBC. As a native of
Romania, she designed sets and costumes for the National Theatre
in Bucharest and other theatres throughout the country before
moving to the United States. She has designed sets, costumes
and stage make-up for over 110 professional and academic productions
and has been honored with numerous awards and received critical
acclaim for outstanding design in Europe and the United States.
She designed for the Woolly Mammoth Theatre in Washington,
D.C. An accomplished artist, Professor Zlotescu has exhibited
her paintings throughout Europe and North America.
