This year's Art Week takes place from April 2nd to April 6th, and we have lots of great things in store. If you're looking to submit artwork, please see the link to the 2012 Submission Form and addendum (if you're looking to submit more than one piece) on the left side of this page. If you have any questions or would like to speak to someone in person about Art Week, please stop into commonvision: Design & Print Center, located in the Mainstreet Lounge to the left of the UMBC Bookstore in The Commons. We are still working on finalizing the week's events - check back often for updates

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

MONDAY, APRIL 2ND
Art Week 2012 Kickoff
12PM • The Commons Mainstreet
This is going to be an all-out art fest with tons of excitement. We'll add more information as we start confirming acts and collaborators, but expect music, crafts, a Mainstreet gallery show, and more.

Visual Aid - Art Week Exhibition Opening
7PM • The Commons Mainstreet
An event to offically open all of the gallery spaces with guided tours and a formal screening of all of the multimedia and film submissions.

 


 

TUESDAY, APRIL 3RD
A Cappella & Short Skit Performances
12PM • The Commons Terrace
Performances by UMBC's A Cappella groups and theatre organizations, along with performances of short skits as a part of Art Week 2012's 15-Minute Playwriting Contest. More details on this contest to come.

Dance Expo
7PM • The Commons Mainstreet
Dance exposition featuring the different dance and cultural organizations on campus, as well as a competition to name Art Week 2012's best dance group.

 


 

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 4TH
Screenprinting Demo
12PM • The Commons Mainstreet
Experience screenprinting firsthand as we print up a batch of ArtWeek tshirts and posters. Tshirt supplies are limited, so you may want to bring a clean blank shirt just in case!

48 Hour Film Festival and Awards Ceremony
7PM • Skylight Lounge
Watching the films and announcing the winners of (seb)'s 48 Hour Film Festival.

Enigma Artists Society Coffee House
7PM • Sports Zone
An event celebrating music and poetry with performances by artists in those areas.

 


 

THURSDAY, APRIL 5TH
Craft Fair
12PM • The Commons Breezeway

Art With A Purpose: A Panel Discussion
7PM • Skylight Lougne
A panel discussion featuring artists in the field doing good, meaningful work. There will be opportunities to network and ask questions, so come prepared and consider how you might be able to transform art into your career.

 


 

FRIDAY, APRIL 6TH
(seb) How To: Printmaking
12-1PM • The Commons Mainstreet
This teaching and learning event, part of the Student Events Board's "How To" Series, will include different printmaking techniques, like stampmaking and screenprinting. For more information, visit umbc.edu/seb.

Artists Reception
2PM • Lower Flat Tuesdays
Celebrate the work and achievement of all the ArtWeek artists and performers with a reception. Light refreshments will be served.
