Application Deadline
The starting date for the 2008-2009 class is Tuesday July 8, 2008.
The application deadline for the UMBC South Campus is Jan. 31.
Late registrants are welcome to apply; however, available placement may be limited and an additional $25 late fee will be assessed in addition to the $50 application fee.
Tuition
Tuition for the July 2008 through August 2009 class is $17,995.00.
Although changes in fees are ordinarily announced in advance, UMBC Training Centers, LLC reserves the right to make such changes without previous announcement.
Admissions Procedure
To apply, the following items must be received by the registration deadline:
- Submit application and appropriate application fee.
Please submit the appropriate application for your specialty of interest (Ex: Cardiac) and indicate a second choice on the application (Ex: Vascular) in the case that placement becomes full in that specialty. Three choices are no longer optional. You will be considered for two specialties only.

- Sealed transcripts from previous colleges/universities, including prerequisite classes
- International students must submit a copy of their foreign transcripts to the UMBC program and send their original transcripts from secondary school and college to World Education Services (WES) for a course by course evaluation to transfer credits and grades to U.S. equivalent. An official report must be sent directly to the UMBC Sonography Program. A fee will be incurred through WES.
- Two letters of recommendation (Adobe Acrobat reader required) from someone, other than a family member, who can evaluate your work/study habits, conduct/behavior, reliability/competence
- An essay expressing your own opinion on the following topic - Evolution of Medical Imaging (checked for grammar, content, and correct form). The essay should be approximately one page (300 words), typed, double-spaced and containing 3-4 paragraphs. Faxed copies of essays will not be accepted. Originals must be mailed or submitted electronically to mdann@umbctrainingcenters.com. Please type “applicant essay” in the subject box of your e-mail message.
- Submit completed volunteer form documenting 40 volunteer hours in a health setting such as, patient representative, waiting room volunteer, volunteer in a medical office, nursing home volunteer, Red Cross volunteer, missions trip or externship that involved medical assistance to the needy, etc. Applicants employed in the Allied Health field do not need to perform volunteer hours.
* The staff of the UMBC Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program reserves the right to reject applications that are incomplete.
Selection Process
The student will be contacted to schedule an appointment with the UMBC South Campus Program between February and March for an interview with the UMBC DMS Selection Committee.
Candidates for the UMBC South Campus Program will be selected by March 31st. Selected students will be notified by mail in April.
Priority of acceptance to the program will be given to the following rank ordered factors:
- Qualified Allied Heath Graduates that have met all prerequisites
- Applicants residing in Baltimore County, Baltimore City
- Applicants residing in Maryland, outside of Baltimore County, Baltimore City
- Applicants residing outside of Maryland
- Applicants residing outside of the U.S.
Entrance Prerequisites
The following college-level courses are required:

- All prerequisites must have a "C" grade or better.
- All Anatomy and Physiology courses must include a lab. The only substitution for Human A&P is Human Biology I and II with a lab.
- Physics does not require a lab. Introductory, applied, general, or Physics for non science majors are allowed.
- All prerequisites may be included in the 60 college credits required to apply for the program. If any prerequisites were not met as part of a degree program, they must be completed prior to applying for the program.
- Graduates of Allied Health programs do not need to re-take physics or medical terminology. These applicants will be considered for the program once they meet the requirements listed above.

Financial Aid: UMBC Training Centers does not provide financial assistance however we do work with SLM Financial Corporation. SLM provides loans for career training. If you are interested in the loan program, you can download the form below and submit it to UMBC Training Centers for submission to SLM.
