- Do you accept federal aid or financial assistance?
No, at this time we cannot accept either, however, we are able to offer a student loan through Sallie Mae.
- When does the program start and how long does it last?
The UMBC South Campus program starts each July and concludes in mid-August. The Elkton Station Campus (Cecil County) program starts each January and concludes in mid-February. Each program is 13.5 months.
- What are the additional costs beyond tuition?
Students are responsible for the parking fees at area hospitals, uniforms, books, lunch, professional organization fees, and registry exam fees upon completion of the program. - What are the hours of the program?
Expect class and clinical hours to begin at 8 am (unless otherwise stated.) The day concludes at 4:30 - 5 pm. Students are required to attend all classes/clinical during these hours Monday-Friday. - Are there any evening or weekend classes?
Evening and off-site lectures may be required. No weekend classes are offered. - What certification do I receive upon completion of the program?
The UMBC Sonography Program is non-credit and graduates receive a certificate upon completion. - Is the program accredited?
The UMBC South Campus program is accredited by CAAHEP and the JRC-DMS. Since the JRC-DMS does not recongize satellite operations, students in the Cecil County-based Elkton Station program have been transferred to South Campus for instruction to ensure that they are registry eligibile upon graduation.
- What is the holiday or vacation schedule for students?
The program is closed 7 major holidays with extended breaks for Thanksgiving, Winter/Christmas, New Year's, and Spring Break. - Can I continue to work while I am in the program?
We do not recommend students work while in the program due to the demands of the program. However, we recognize that some students must work to support themselves. Please be conscious of your work hours so that they do not interfere with class time and/or study time. - What is the dress code for the program?
The dress code for class is casual; jeans, t-shirts, khakis, polo shirts, etc. Students must look neat and professional at all times. Shorts, mini-skirts, tank tops, halter tops, and mini t-shirts are not allowed, as well as anything obscene or offensive. - Is there a required uniform for the UMBC program?
Yes, the UMBC Sonography program requires all students wear a uniform that identifies them as UMBC students while at clinical site rotations. The student must appear neat and professional at all times. - What is required of students once accepted into the program?
Accepted students must sign an enrollment agreement and obtain the following - a complete physical, CPR certification and a criminal background check.
