A+ Certification - Preparation for the individual interested in obtaining CompTIA's industry-standard, vendor-neutral credential to pursue a career as a computer service technician, or use the equivalent knowledge to support careers that require an in-depth knowledge of technical support issues for the personal computing platform.
CCNA - The CCNA certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) indicates a foundation in and functional knowledge of networking for the small office/home office (SOHO) market. CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), utilizing various protocols. A CCNA is qualified for careers such as Help Desk Engineer, Field Technician, Level 1 Systems Engineer or Level 1 Systems Integrator.
Certified Ethical Hacker - This course prepares you for the EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker exam. It will significantly benefit security officers, auditors, security professionals, site administrators, and anyone who is concerned about the integrity of the network infrastructure. This class will immerse the student into an interactive environment where they will be shown how to scan, test, hack and secure their own systems. The lab intensive environment gives each student in-depth knowledge and practical experience with the current essential security systems.
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) - The CISSP prep course is intended for experienced information security/assurance practitioners. The course covers all topics included on the CISSP examination and provides:
- A high level review of the ten domains.
- Help determining the topics where students should study for exam preparation.
- An overview of the scope of the Infosec field.
Implementing and Supporting Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional, Course 2272 - The purpose of this course is to address the implementation and desktop support needs of customers that are planning to deploy and support Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional in a variety of stand-alone and network operating system environments. It provides in-depth, hands-on training for Information Technology (IT) professionals responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and support of Windows XP Professional. This course is based on the final, retail release of Windows XP Professional.
Introduction to Programming Microsoft .NET Framework Applications with Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005 - This five-day instructor-led course enables introductory-level developers who are not familiar with the Microsoft .NET Framework or Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 to gain familiarity with the Visual Studio 2005 development environment. Students will also learn basic skills using either Microsoft Visual Basic or Microsoft Visual C#( as a programming language.
Network+ Certification - The Network+ Certification offering is designed for the individual interested in obtaining CompTIA's vendor-neutral, industry-standard credential, in order to pursue or advance a career as a computer network technician. The Network+ course of study is also appropriate in preparation for the MCP/MCSE course of study.
Oracle Database 10g: Introduction to SQL - This course offers students an extensive introduction to data server technology. The class covers the concepts of both relational and object relational databases and the powerful SQL programming language.
Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop I - This course is your first step towards success as an Oracle professional, designed to give you a firm foundation in basic database tasks. In this class, you'll learn how to install and maintain an Oracle database.
Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop II - This course advances your success as an Oracle professional in the area of database administration. This course provide the student knowledge to recover a database using RMAN, SQL, and Flashback technology. Tools to monitor database performance and how to use various database technologies, such as Resource Manager, the Scheduler, and Automatic Storage Management (ASM).
Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators - This course introduces students to the new features in Oracle Database 10g - the database for Grid computing. Students learn how to use Oracle Database 10g new features to increase database availability, to simplify database performance monitoring and tuning through the use of Oracle Database 10g Advisors, and to offer simplified database manageability. The course also covers security and some development platform changes that students need to understand if applications running in databases support the related features. Hands-on practice sessions give students an opportunity to examine many of the new features for themselves.
Programming with the Microsoft .NET Framework Using Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005 - This five-day instructor-led course enables developers who are migrating from a different development language, an earlier version of Visual Basic .NET or Visual C#, or who have completed entry-level training and experience using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, to gain in-depth guidance on programming the Microsoft .NET Framework versions 2.0 and 3.0 with Visual Studio 2005.
Security+ Certification - The Security+ Certification offering is designed for the individual interested in obtaining CompTIA's vendor-neutral, industry-standard, entry-level IT Security credential, in order to pursue or advance a career as a computer security professional, or enhance any IT career role that has security implications. The Security+ course of study is also appropriate as a prerequisite to the CISSP or SCNP course of study.
Sun Fundamentals of the Java Programming Language (SL-110) - The Java Programming Language course teaches students the syntax of the Java programming language; object-oriented programming with the Java programming language; creating graphical user interfaces (GUI), exceptions, file input/output (I/O), threads and networking. Programmers familiar with object-oriented concepts can learn how to develop Java applications.
Sun Java Programming Language (SL 275) - The Java Programming Language course teaches students the syntax of the Java programming language; object-oriented programming with the Java programming language; creating graphical user interfaces (GUI), exceptions, file input/output (I/O), threads and networking. Programmers familiar with object-oriented concepts can learn how to develop Java applications.
Biotechnology - UMBC is the only academic institution in Maryland, and one of a few in the world, to offer comprehensive training programs in the area of regulatory affairs for biotechnology. UMBC Training Centers offers this 4-course sequence to non-credit students, providing participants with an in-depth exposure to key areas associated with bringing a biological product to the market under FDA approval. Courses may be taken individually; non-credit students completing all four courses will be awarded 18 CEUs. (See below for Graduate Credit option.)
Design, Construction, and Validation of GMP Biotechnology Facilities - This course presents a detailed discussion of the design, construction, and validation issues to be considered for a GMP Biotechnology Manufacturing facility. Topics to be covered include architectural considerations, equipment, utilities, materials of construction and computerization.
Good Manufacturing Practices for Bioprocesses - This course presents an in-depth discussion of the application of current good maunfacturing practices (cGMP's) to the biotechnology industry. cGMP requirements, compliance, and adequate documentation will be addressed.
Quality Control and Quality Assurance for Biotechnology Products - This course will cover in-depth the key issues associated with adequate quality control systems, assays and stability for the novel biotechnology products.
Regulatory Issues in Biotechnology - This course provides an in-depth study of the regulatory framework required to achieve approval of new products derived through biotechnology.
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) - These interactive courses are designed to prepare the practicing engineer for the FE/EIT (Fundamentals of Engineering/Engineers-In-Training) exam. Review courses for the EIT are intensive, with an emphasis on problem solving and testing strategies. Materials and sample problems are based on guidelines from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Specifically designed model test and review sessions for this course simulate the actual EIT Exam.

Microsoft Project 2007 Workshop - A successful project is one that comes in on time, within budget, and meets established quality standards. Every project manager knows that effective management of tasks and events is vital to a project, from inception through completion. Many project managers have begun to rely on software tools to assist in the management of their projects. MS Project is a project management tool that facilitates assembly and tracking of projects, and enables project managers to quickly reconfigure plans as needed. Because of its sophisticated functionality, MS Project has become one of the most widely used project management tools.
Project Estimating - This workshop is designed to prepare participants for the challenges of estimating, to provide them with a model for estimating throughout the project lifecycle, and to provide them with tools and techniques that can be used to create reliable estimates.
Using Earned Value Management to Measure Project Performance - Successful project managers make effective project plans. Then they control those plans by carefully monitoring, measuring, and managing cost, schedule and quality. One effective technique that is used by these managers is Earned Value Management (EVM). This one-day workshop provides participants with the concepts, formulas, and processes needed to develop an effective Earned Value Management method. Armed with this method, participants will be able to accurately assess project status, foresee early-warning signs of project slippage, take corrective actions and report relevant information to varying stakeholder groups. Lastly, participants will gain can insight into how to implement EVM in their organizations.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography - The UMBC Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program has been in existence since 1973 as the Maryland Institute of Ultrasound Technology (MIUT) and was acquired by UMBC in 1993. The program has been accredited through CAAHEP and the JRC-DMS since 1986. Because of its tenure and dedication to producing knowledgeable and competent Sonographers, the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program has prevailed and is proud to be a part of UMBC.
