How do I receive my voucher for my exam?

Each class has an exam associated. We pass the students name onto the CFFP and it is the students’ responsibility to contact the CFFP and take the exam. The student has one year from the anniversary date of the class to take the exam. The exam is included in the price of the class.

What are the program objectives for CFP?

The program objectives are:

  • To provide instruction that prepares students to pass the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM Certification Examination to become a CFP® certificant
  • To assess student learning to constantly improve curriculum design, teaching methods, the student learning experience, and beneficial learning resources
  • To prepare students to competently engage in the practice of personal financial planning
  • To produce educational materials in all disciplines of personal financial planning that are of the highest academic quality
  • To instill in students a commitment to engage in life-long continuing education to better serve their clients and communities, and to achieve career success

What is the pass rate for first-time testers?

The pass rate for the College's first-time testers through the March 2007 CFP Certification Examination was 78%, versus a pass rate of 64% for students from other sources. The College’s testers passed at a rate of 75%, while only 57% of students from other sources passed the exam.

Do I need to take an examination for each of the five programs?

The College requires that you successfully complete an educational examination for each of the five parts of the program. These multiple choice exams are offered electronically, permitting you to test when you are prepared. Exam questions are designed to acquaint you with the general style of the CFP Certification Examination, but are based only on our course materials.

How can I receive Continuing Education Credits?

Completing the CFP Certification Professional Education Program may fulfill continuing education (CE) requirements of certain State Boards of Accountancy. Individual materials for each program, and the program itself, can help meet the firm element of the securities industry's (and therefore each company's) CE requirements.
State Boards of Accountancy and insurance departments in many states also recognize the CFP Certification Professional Education Program. See details in the Continuing Education Table. You can also check the College's Web site for updated information on CE credits.

Does the College for Financial Planning award the CFP certification?

No. The CFP certification or mark is owned and governed by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. The CFP Board determines who will be awarded the CFP® certification/mark based on a set standard of requirements. To obtain further information you should contact the CFP Board directly. The College for Financial Planning is an educational provider that fulfills the educational requirement for those individuals seeking to obtain the CFP® certification/mark.

I would like to take my CFP® Certification Professional Education Program courses in a different order, can I do this?

How many times can I test?

You can test two times (your original exam and one retest) at no charge from the College. If you need to test a third or subsequent time, there is a $100 exam rescheduling fee that must be paid to the College at least 10 days before you want to test.

I registered for an exam through Prometric and they requested my Social Security number. Why?

When scheduling for an exam through Prometric you will be asked to provide your Social Security number.  If you have not provided your Social Security number to the College you will not be able to access the exam at Prometric.  Prometric’s systems access your exam through the information provided at the time of registration, which includes your Social Security number.
I have not yet taken the exam from last year.  Is it possible to still take it?  Would my student
You do not need to be reinstated into the course, but reactivated.  As a result, you will need to contact the Student Services Center at 1-800-237-9990 Option 2 and would need to pay a $100 reactivation fee.
