Cybersecurity TrainingOverviewThis program provides candidates with the skills, knowledge and credentials required to successfully begin a career in the fields of Information Technology and Cybersecurity. This program was designed by UMBC Training Centers in collaboration with senior executives and technical staff from the Department of Defense, leading Government Contractors, and Fortune 500 companies. There is a severe shortage of IT professionals with the skills, certifications, and problem solving abilities necessary to meet the nation's Cyber Defense challenge. And this shortage is expected to persist for years. This represents a tremendous career opportunity for motivated individuals with the right skills and certifications. UMBC created the Certificate in Cyber Foundations in response to employers' need for the right talent. They told us they need people who can be productive in their organizations from Day 1. To earn the Certificate in Cyber Foundations, students must complete two courses:
Students are required to be CompTIA Network+ certified prior to starting the program. Additionally, students must achieve either CompTIA Linux+, Microsoft MCTS Windows 7, or Cisco CCNA certification prior to completion of the program. In completing the two certifications students will have attained both a DoD 8570 certification and a highly recognized industry technical certification. Students may take the certification exams at UMBC Training Centers' on-site Prometric and VUE Testing Center. AudienceThis program is suitable for individuals seeking to enter the fields of Information Technology and Cybersecurity, or those are already in the field who desire rigorous education and training. This program prepares students for employment with government agencies, government contractors and commercial enterprises in the Mid-Atlantic region. This Certificate program is offered in response to industry’s need for qualified employees with the right certifications and problem solving skills to be effective in system support, computer network operations (CNO) and computer network defense (CND). While Cyber is the primary focus, this program provides excellent preparation for work in any commercial or civilian IT organization. PrerequisitesApplicants should already have good computer skills and be comfortable working on Windows systems. A+ and Network+ classes, or equivalent skills and experience. Our Certificate in Computer and Network Technology is the recommended prerequisite for students who are new to the IT field. Students are also required to be CompTIA Network+ certified prior to starting the program. ScheduleUMBC Training Centers offers the program courses several times throughout the year, in both daytime bootcamp and evening/weekend class times. Students may choose to take any of the available class sessions as best suits their schedules.
