The Java Programming Language course teaches students the syntax of the Java programming language; object-oriented programming with the Java programming language; creating graphical user interfaces (GUI), exceptions, file input/output (I/O), threads and networking. Programmers familiar with object-oriented concepts can learn how to develop Java applications. The course uses the Java 2 Software Development Kit (SDK).

Prerequisites: To succeed in this course, individuals should be able to explain and apply object-oriented principles; have created and compiled simple programs in an object-oriented language like Java or C++; or have completed "Fundamentals of the Java Programming Language (SL-110)". Other requirements include creating and editing text files using a text editor; using basic UNIX® commands; browsing the web.

Certification Exam: Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform 1.4 (CX-310-035)

Duration: 35 hours
